Suicide bomber kills 8 in Tel Aviv

A suicide bomber killed eight people and injured at least 49 others outside of a falafel restaurant in Tel Aviv Monday.

Islamic Jihad took responsibility for the attack, which happened at the same location of a bombing in January that injured 20. The organization, which also claimed the January blast, had yesterday condemned Israeli rocket attacks in Gaza.

The Hamas government in Palestine blamed the attacks on Israel's policy of "occupation and the brutal aggression and siege committed against our people." President Abbas who heads the rival Fatah party, however, condemned the attack.

The suicide bombings come as Jews celebrate the feast of Passover as a national holiday.

After Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon and Abbas signed a defacto truce in February, 2005, attacks by both sides have decreased. Islamic Jihad, however, failed to agree to the ceasefire and has been responsible for all six bombings since the agreement.
