Africa summit to address pressing economic problems

African leaders will meet next week in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Africa summit at Cape Town, South Africa.

The conference runs from May 31-June 2 with the theme "Going for Growth," and will deal with issues like poverty and increasing trade.

Africa has grown by more than 5 percent over the last three years, and leaders say that rate must increase to provide jobs for the poor and to build infrastructure.

China has shown great interest in Africa lately as a source of strategic materials to fuel its own 9-plus percent economic growth. Beijing has offered an attractive "strategic partnership" with Africa that includes direct investment and donor aid.
