Prodi: Iraq war was grave mistake
Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi called the Iraq war a grave mistake Thursday in his first address to the Senate.

While reiterating his country's stand against terrorism, Prodi called the "war and occupation in Iraq a grave error that hasn't solved — but has complicated — the problem of security."
Prodi opposed the war as opposition leader and made a pullout part of his campaign platform. Italy is currently withdrawing its troops from Iraq in stages that should be complete by the end of the year.
He said Italy would help with anti-terror operations, but only if they were sanctioned by international organizations.
