Alberto strengthening to hurricane status

Weather forecasters posted a hurricane warning for parts of Florida's Gulf coast as Tropical Storm Alberto intensified Monday.

Alberto is expected to strengthen to hurricane status within the next 24 hours.

The system is expected to make landfall on Tuesday but tropical storm weather could hit the coast much earlier.

Some weakening is expected to occur before landfall due to cooler water temperatures and increased wind shear. The system make downgrade to strong tropical storm status before reaching the coast.
