Israel and Palestine hold 'symbolic' talks
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas met in Jordan Thursday in a symbolic meeting between the two sides.
The breakfast encounter at the World Heritage site of Petra was hosted by Jordan's King Abdullah II.

Abbas said that preparations for further meetings will begin next week.
Israel though has refused to communicate with the new Hamas-led government in Palestine. Abbas is primarily responsible for peace talks as leader of the Palestinian Authority and may relay any proposals with Israel to Hamas.
