South Korea's Ban Ki-Moon nominated new UN chief

The United Nations Security Council Monday nominated South Korean Foriegn Minister Ban Ki-Moon to succeed Kofi Annan as Secretary-General.

The announcement was made by this month's council president Kenzo Oshima, the Japanese UN envoy.

Ban's nomination comes after North Korea captured the world's attention with its first ever nuclear weapon test.

"I may look soft from the outside but I have inner strength when it's really necessary. I've always been very decisive," the soft-spoken Ban told AFP.
