Mbeki won't assist ANC in South African elections

Former South African president Thabo Mbeki said in a letter Friday that he will not campaign for the ANC party in upcoming elections.

Mbeki was forced to step down in a row with ANC chair Jacob Zuma, the head of South Africa's ruling party. The split between the two men has led to the formation of a breakaway movement by former defence minister Mosiuoa "Terror" Lekota, a Mbeki loyalist.
